Riding Around the World for Spark of Life

Globetrotting Golfer, Adventurer & Spark of Life Advocate

In August 2016, David Wren, a professional golfer and advocate for Spark of Life, is completing a 24,000km journey cycling from his ancestral village Athboy in Ireland across the world to his birthplace in Griffith, NSW Australia.

David will start this leg of the ride along the old Silk Road, a trading route for over 1500 years,  which will take him through Central Asia. This next leg will include Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and then into Western China. The planned route home will be a complete crossing of China to the East Coast, then a flight to Perth for the final leg to Griffith.

Here David talks about his ride:

How Dementia Touched David's Life
David's mum, Althea Wren, spent the last 10 years of her life with severe dementia. During Althea's last five years she was unable to talk or recognise family members and friends. The experience of Althea's dementia certainly had an effect on how David looked at life. He now lives by the saying, 'Life is short' and pursues activities that are truly meaningful to him - hence his world bike ride for Spark of Life.

Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life
This foundation raises funds to alleviate the emotional suffering and ignites the spirit of people with dementia, their families and carers so all can experience life to their fullest potential.

How Together We Can Raise Funds
David says, 'I have set up this fundraising campaign where I will post photos and detail parts of my trip. All of the funds will go to the Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life, so I warmly invite you to make a difference and donate today.'
