Sydney Roosters & Dementia Foundation Come Out Winners
On Saturday 30 July 2011, the Sydney Roosters dedicated their Round 21 match against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs to raise awareness for the Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life.
The Spark of Life Approach was a cause close to the heart of then Roosters five-eighth & Daly Award winner 2010, Todd Carney, who lost his father to dementia. He met with Jane and Hilary to discuss his family experience and to emphasise his desire to raise the profile of the foundation.
With Todd and club captain Braith Anasta right behind the cause, the Sydney Roosters first grade squad wore rainbow shorts and socks to raise awareness about the Dementia Foundation's Spark of Life Approach. Spark of Life encourages the use of vibrant colours as they have been found to have a profound positive and instant effect for people with dementia.
Jane and Hilary were honoured to take to the field before the game, embracing the opportunity to address the crowd and tell about the foundations aims.
To help raise funds for the Dementia Foundation, the Roosters also offered special limited tickets and the team’s playing kits, including their boots, were auctioned, raising 47000 for the Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life. The day was highly successful with the Roosters enjoying a win over the Bulldogs.
Dementia Foundation thanks the Sydney Roosters & Todd Carney for their support.
