International Spark of Life Week

11-17 March 2012

36823y4n50dwy0fThe Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life is proud to announce the inaugural International Spark of Life Week that will be held each year in the third week of March. This year it will be from Sunday 11 - Saturday 17 March 2012.

The International Spark of Life Week provides an ideal opportunity to raise funds for the Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life.

The vision of the Foundation is to relieve the emotional suffering of people with dementia and their carers, and enable the opportunity for dementia rehabilitation and renewed emotional wellbeing. The purpose of the Foundation is to raise the funds to achieve this vision through education on the Spark of Life Philosophy.

Funds raised in Australia will be used for scholarships and educational projects exclusively within Australia and funds raised overseas will be used for scholarships and educational projects only in countries outside Australia.

While it may be short notice, we do believe that if we all pull together during International Spark of Life Week 2012, we can raise enough funds for scholarships for overseas health professionals and Australia. How wonderful would that be?  This would mean that so many more people can have access to the education that benefits people with dementia.

Barefoot Bowling - Fundraising idea for Aged Care and the Community

Rowan Williams, from Coastal Waters Aged Care Facility, NSW, Australia has taken the initiative of running a 'Barefoot Bowling Match' at his facility to raise funds for Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life, also providing a media opportunity to inform his community about Spark of Life and dementia rehabilitation.

The foundation has adopted this idea as a fundraising activity theme for 2012 and invites aged care facilities and the community to become involved adding their own creative touches, which could even include the use of the eight Spark of Life rainbow colours.

To register your fundraising event/s with the foundation, please email us on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for a registration form.

We also encourage everyone who organises a fundraising event to send in photos from highlights of their event with a short caption. Your event will then be featured on the foundation website capturing those special moments of joy and togetherness from around the globe during the 2012 International Spark of Life Week.

Please email your photos to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and remember to attach consent forms for every person featured in the photos.

So, now it is over to you – time for action.  Get together with your residents, clients or patients and decide on how you could run a Barefoot Bowling Match or similiar event in your facility or in the community and how you could add your own creativity to it.  Set yourself a fundraising goal and get everyone involved. Remember to take photos during the event in the week between the 11-17 March.

We look very much forward to receiving your contributions. Together we are making history and this will be a fabulous opportunity to show the good work that is happening around the world right now in 2012.
